For once, it’s a portfolio review you don’t have to sweat. Students in Design, along with the Portfolio Center at Columbia College Chicago, is inviting students and professionals to come out and see what each other are up to. There’s no pressure, and it’s all happening Friday, April 19th, from 6-9pm.

Students will get to meet with 3-4 designers each, in their own field as well as others. Each review will get you fifteen minutes of valuable insight closer to doing what you love. This is a chance to practice having your material looked over. You can avoid the sweaty palms and bewilderment of portfolio reviews to come.

Designers: you can shape the kinds of work that next year’s graduates will be prepared to do. Let us know what we need to look forward to.

For any questions and interest, please contact Keenan Browe, or message us on Facebook.

LGBT MONTH SEAL
COLUMBIA COLLEGE CHICAGO
LOGO | 2012

I work at the Multicultural Affairs Office at Columbia. They asked me to create a mark to be used for various materials and merchandise to celebrate the LGBT History Month.

I created the graphic as a mark for ones social standing. I felt it was appropriate to evoke a more political persona with the current presidential elections. I also reeeeeaaaaaaalllly wanted to use the identity of the rainbow beyond a gradient (because it kills me…)

I’ve been doing more infographic notes but its been a while since I’ve developed a sketch more thoroughly. I found myself drawing over my schedule and ended up pulling out my markers…

Finished version of art student owl illust, worked on while my building had a fire on the 7th floor. I was safe, it was quite a thing to observe though. Don’t set your apartment on fire, kids!

Mini-books. 4 new ones added to the family last night, including one with rounded corners and one with black pages. Hand-bound using a variation on Drum Leaf binding learned at a Columbia College Book and Paper Arts workshop last summer. Mini-books are blank inside and are 2.75”x2.25”.

Next step: to print my own art for the cover wrapper on future mini-books.
